Most importantly, we provide practical recommendations that help you move forward with confidence in everyday life.
Our process involves:
- Initial intake interview (with parent/carer for children/adolescents, or directly with adults)
- 2–3 assessment sessions for ADHD, or 3–4 sessions for Autism
- Questionnaires completed by parents, teachers, or partners where appropriate
- Report preparation and clinical review
- Final feedback and planning session

Do I need a referral?
No, a referral is not required to book an ADHD or ASD assessment with Vivid Psychology. However, if you wish to explore medication or certain rebates, you may also need to see your GP, paediatrician, or psychiatrist.
Can I claim through private health insurance?
Yes, you may be able to claim part of the assessment cost depending on your level of coverage. Please check directly with your health insurance provider. The most relevant code is item number 100 – individual assessment. Rebate amounts differ between funds.
Can I claim through Medicare?
In most cases, Medicare does not cover ADHD or ASD diagnostic assessments completed by a psychologist. Medicare rebates are generally available for therapy sessions under a Mental Health Care Plan, but not for diagnostic assessments. If a paediatrician or psychiatrist is involved in your child’s care, you may wish to ask if any part of their assessment process is Medicare-rebatable.
How long does the process take?
Assessments are usually completed across 4–5 sessions, with the final feedback and report available approximately 6 weeks after the last session.
What’s included in the report?
You will receive a comprehensive written report that includes:
- Diagnostic findings (where relevant)
- A summary of strengths and challenges
- Practical recommendations for school, home, or work
- Guidance for medical or allied health referrals if needed
Can my child/adolescent do more than one session a day?
Generally, we limit children and adolescents to one session per day to prevent fatigue. For families travelling from regional WA, we can arrange two sessions in one day with breaks. Adults may choose multiple sessions in a day if they prefer.
Will I automatically receive a diagnosis?
Not always. Some people meet the criteria for ADHD or ASD, while others may not. In some cases, further monitoring or broader assessment may be recommended. Regardless of outcome, you will always receive a detailed report and personalised strategies.
Can the assessment help with school or workplace supports?
Yes. Our reports are designed to support:
- School-based accommodations and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Workplace adjustments and HR processes
- NDIS or Disability Services funding applications
- Referrals to medical or allied health professionals
Do you prescribe medication?
No. As a psychology-only assessment clinic, we do not prescribe medication. If medication is being considered, your GP, paediatrician, or psychiatrist will use our report to inform their decisions.
What if the presentation is complex?
Occasionally, more complex presentations may require an additional session (for example, when multiple co-occurring concerns are present). This is uncommon and will always be discussed with you before booking.
